A Detox Program
Tailored to You

Different types of substances produce various side effects and require different methods of detox. In addition to the specialized detox of alcohol, opiates and benzodiazepines, we offer medically-supervised detox services for a range of substances, including:

  • Cocaine, meth and other stimulants
  • Marijuana and cannabis-containing substances
  • Barbiturates and hypnotics
  • K2, spice and other synthetic drugs
  • Ecstasy and other club drugs
  • Hallucinogens
  • Inhalants

The sudden cessation of use can lead to unpleasant, dangerous consequences, which is why attempting detox on one’s own is so high-risk. A medically-supervised detox that allows an individual’s condition to stabilize and alleviates withdrawal symptoms is the safest course of action.

Substance Dependency
Detox Services

The longer an addiction lasts, the greater the effects on an individual. Long-term substance use can cause certain types of cancer and damages to the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and central nervous systems.

There is also a clear link between substance abuse and depression, as well as other mood disorders.(1) This association can be caused by a pre-existing, co-occurring disorder that led to substance use, or it can be brought on by changes in the brain caused by substance use.

Withdrawal from different types of drugs, such as depressants (alcohol), stimulants (cocaine) or opioids (heroin), result in different side effects and thus require different approaches to detox. We understand the physical and emotional challenges of detox, which is why our clinical and medical teams take time to create individualized detox plans for each client that prioritize comfort, safety and family support.

Our detox services include:

  • Medication management
  • 24/7 onsite clinical and medical care
  • Relapse prevention training
  • Family program

In most cases, detox involves a gradual reduction of the dose of the drug or substitution with other substances that help an individual’s condition stabilize. In addition to helping our clients feel more comfortable physically, we maintain a facility that feels more like home instead of a hospital. We also incorporate our family program into detox, during which we teach family members how to be supportive of their loved one in their recovery.

How Long Does Detox Last?

Detox usually occurs over a 7-10 day period. However, it is unique to each client, just as a treatment program. Detox is a necessary first step to recovery. Some clients come to us specifically for our unparalleled medically-supervised detox and continue treatment elsewhere. Other clients are with us from detox, to treatment, to discharge.

There are a few essential elements that determine a person’s detox plan, which include:

  • History of addiction
  • Severity of addiction
  • Medical history
  • Co-occurring disorders or conditions
  • The person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being

Substance Dependence
Withdrawal Symptoms

Unfortunately, quitting isn’t as easy as deciding not to use anymore. Withdrawal symptoms inevitably kick in and vary depending on the type of substance and length of use.

Common withdrawal symptoms include:

  • Substance cravings
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Disorientation
  • Increased perspiration
  • Hallucinations
  • Seizures

Withdrawal symptoms are different for everyone, but with the right combination of medication and counseling, Princeton Detox & Recovery Center clients are able to build a strong foundation for recovery.
